Cultural factors include the media, ethnicity and race. Personal contributors include family of origin and peer messages and experiences, athletics, physical/sexual/verbal abuse, and mood disorders. How can Body Image be Improved? Education, parental influence during an individual's younger years, and changing a person's thought processes about their body are key pieces to improving body image. In addition, eliminating self-destructive behaviors, as well as a variety of experiential techniques are extremely valuable. Is this really possible? Mending the relationship between a person and their body is a long and challenging process.
